Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy in Downtown Baltimore/ Mt. Vernon, MD

Our occupational therapists will ensure that all of our patients are monitored daily, assessed regularly and educated on their rehabilitation needs. These needs include the basic performance of self-care that comprises daily activities such as dressing etc. This education will also help to address some barriers within the patient's daily routine.

Occupational Therapy begins as an acute service and moves forward into an outpatient clinic. Following injury or illness, occupational therapy improves function from disability to ability.

Occupational Therapy Improves Independence

Occupational Therapy is most beneficial for this reason. You want to be independent enough to take care of yourself. You want to complete personal tasks, like bathing, getting dressed, and going to the restroom with as little help as possible.

OT therapy primarily focuses on improving specific self-care and life skills. These skills are:

  • Fixing Meals and Eating
  • Dressing
  • Toileting
  • Bathing – especially getting into and out of the tub
  • Hygiene tasks like washing and doing your hair
  • And other necessary activities of daily living

Your Eagle Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist practices these skills during your recovery. They provide techniques to help you compensate for deficits, weakness, or problems with specific skills. This helps you complete self-care tasks until you recover more functional ability.

Improve Endurance and Strength

Exercise activities are expected in therapy, Occupational Therapy analyzes the movements and cognitive requirements for daily tasks. Then, it creatively implements exercises and activities to build on your current abilities to improve overall independence.

Increase Functional Cognition

Occupational Therapy addresses cognition for functional necessities. Cognitive skills are needed to pay your bills, order online, organize your calendar, and return to work. OT focuses on practicing skills requiring attention, organization, reasoning and problem solving to improve cognition for functional tasks.
